This walking tour will take you to a 16th-century temple called Jagat Shiromani Temple. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, Jagat Shiromani Temple is a historic place of worship and was built by Queen Shringar Devi Kanakawat, in the memory of her son. Post this, visit the Narsingh Haveli and have a glimpse of the ancient art and trade culture in a better way. The second half of the tour will be dedicated towards stepwell (Panna Meena Kund) built during the 16th century by one of the eunuchs of Maharaja Jai Singh II. With this visit, you will also visit Chota Sagar, a beautiful reservoir. In other words, the walk brings to you a blend of historical jewels with fascinating natural spots.  You will then be welcomed into a Meena village, an ancient community connected to the former Matsya Kingdom. You will discover a ruined fort and hidden shrine within the village and your guide will be able to explain what is known about this often misunderstood part of ancient Rajasthan.

That afternoon we will visit the Hawa Mahal or Palace of the Winds, a five-storied structure of pink sandstone with semi-octagonal and delicately honeycombed windows overlooking the main street of the old city. It was built in 1799 so that veiled royal women could peer down unseen by the world through its 593 stone screens.

Next, we will visit Amber Fort, the former capital of the royal Jaipurs.

We will then ride up to this hilltop palace on a Jeep. Our guide will elaborate on the history of this architectural masterpiece with its mirror-studded alcoves, dazzling mosaics and water-cooled swings that delight today’s visitors as they did their former royal residents.

Day 7 (April 9)

After breakfast (included), we will visit the Galta temple, known by locals and rickshaw-wallahs simply as Monkey Temple; Galwar Bagh is a popular pilgrimage site and temple complex on the outskirts of town. The temple itself is called Gulta Ji Mandir; it’s a 30-minute walk from the ceremonial gate called Gulta Pol, located at the far eastern edge of the city, off Ajmer Road—about five minutes from the Muslim quarter. The walk leads you over a small mountain pass and past, inevitably, at least a few Hindu sadhus (holy men) and small temples. Jaipuri Hindus believe that at the site of the Gulta Ji Mandir, a local saint named Gala Rishi—nicknamed Gulta Ji—brought forth a spring of holy water from the Ganges and filled a tank (water reservoir 18 feet deep). The waters here are said to be spiritually connected to the Ganges—if you bathe here, you get the same benefits as a pilgrimage to the Ganges. The temple, which venerates Lord Brahma, Creator of the Universe, is in violation of a curse by Brahma’s wife Savatri; she confined his temples to Pushkar.

Our tour also includes a visit to Patrika gate that gives you a sneak peek into the vibrant culture of Rajasthan as each pillar is dedicated to some or the other part of the state.
